The UAE is moving from PDF and paper invoices to structured electronic invoices exchanged through Accredited Service Providers (ASPs). For most small businesses the mandatory date is in 2027, but the work that makes it easy, clean and consistent records, starts now.
What changes
Today, a tax invoice can be a PDF sent by email. Under e-invoicing, invoices between businesses are sent as structured data in a set format, through an ASP, so they can be read by the buyer's system and reported to the FTA. A PDF alone will no longer be the invoice.
The timeline
| Date | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1 July 2026 | Pilot and voluntary adoption open |
| 30 October 2026 | Businesses with revenue of AED 50 million or more appoint an ASP |
| 1 January 2027 | E-invoicing mandatory for businesses at AED 50 million or more |
| 31 March 2027 | All other businesses appoint an ASP |
| 1 July 2027 | E-invoicing mandatory for all remaining in-scope businesses |

What an ASP does
An Accredited Service Provider is a company approved to send and receive e-invoices on your behalf and report them. You'll use one, directly or through your accounting system, rather than connecting to the FTA yourself.
Five things to do now
- Get your customer data right. Correct legal names, addresses and TRNs for every business customer. E-invoices are rejected for data a PDF would let slide.
- Use one numbering sequence. No gaps, no reused numbers, no invoices from three different templates.
- Stop editing issued invoices. Corrections by credit note only.
- Put VAT on each line. Line-level VAT treatment is what structured invoices carry.
- Choose a system that will connect for you, so you don't have to change how you invoice when the date arrives.
Do I need new software?
Not necessarily. What you need is a system that holds clean, structured invoice data and will exchange it through an ASP once you're in scope. If your invoices live in Word or Excel today, the move to a proper invoicing system is the real change.

Questions
Does e-invoicing apply to sales to consumers?
The first phases focus on invoices between businesses and to government. Check the scope that applies to your supplies when you appoint an ASP.
Can I keep sending PDFs to customers?
You can still send a PDF copy for convenience, but once you're in scope, the e-invoice exchanged through the ASP is the invoice.
What does e-invoicing cost?
ASP pricing varies. With Fisqel, e-invoicing is included in the Business and Pro plans once live.
